Women in Mining UK appoints new Chair of the Board
Press Release
London – 2 July 2024: The Board of Directors of Women in Mining UK (WIM UK) today announce the appointment of Gina Jardine as Chair of the Board effective immediately, following an extensive search process. Ms Jardine succeeds Carole Cable who has retired from the Board after serving as Chair for the past seven years.
“It has been a great honour to have served as Chair of WIM UK,” said Carole Cable. “I am incredibly proud of our accomplishments which couldn’t have been achieved without our incredible volunteers, partners and allies. To all of you, thank you for your dedication and support.”
“I am so pleased to hand the reins over to Gina who has incredible experience working in mining and importantly with people in mining. With Gina’s strong track record of strategic leadership in executive and non-executive roles and her focus on people, diversity, and culture, I am confident that she will provide immense value to WIM UK and all our members and partners.”
“This is an exciting time for mining and the role women can play to shape the future of the industry as a responsible provider of critical materials necessary for decarbonisation and global growth. I will continue to champion diversity, equity and inclusion for all, and the continued success of WIM UK.”
Ms Jardine is a global human resources professional with over 30 years’ experience in senior strategic and operational roles, including more than half of her career working for mining companies, namely Rio Tinto and Kinross Gold Corporation. She retired from her executive career last year and founded her own boutique consultancy working with leaders to design and transform their businesses putting people and culture at the heart of what they do.
Ms Jardine has lived and worked in the UK, Australia and Canada, and is now based in London. She is a Non-Executive Director of the Board of Forterra Plc.
“I am deeply honoured to have been appointed as the Chair of the WIM UK Board of Directors,” said Gina Jardine. “I am passionate about the mining industry, particularly its opportunities for women.”
“The shift towards decarbonisation calls for diverse and innovative approaches in critical mineral supply, making it a perfect moment for women to lead and take on even more significant roles. This role allows me to expand upon WIM UK’s already impressive accomplishments. I look forward to working closely with Stacy Hope and the rest of the executive team, our Board of Directors, and our volunteers and members.”
Stacy Hope, Managing Director WIM UK, commented: “We are thrilled to have Gina join WIM UK as Chair of the Board.”
“It has been such an honour and a pleasure to work with Carole since she and the Board appointed me Managing Director. Beyond having deep knowledge and expertise in the mining industry, her insights and guidance have been incredibly valuable to me and WIM UK.”
“As this is a 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining year, it is apt that we can celebrate both incredible women who have and will drive the organisation into greater success. On behalf of everyone at WIM UK, I wish Carole well and look forward to working closely with Gina to deliver on promoting the employment, retention and advancement of women in the mining sector.”
As part of WIM UK’s ongoing succession planning, a rigorous and comprehensive search process was undertaken by the Board of Directors, led by one of our WIM100 partners, Heidrick & Struggles, the global executive search firm.
